This is one of the oldest of the seven Hopi villages discovered by the conquering Spaniards of Coronado's army in 1540. Scattered throughout the village are underground chambers called kivas, in which the men do most of their spinning, weaving, etc., where take place almost all of the sacred ceremonies. Certain public ceremonies take place on public squares or plazas. A corner of one of them is shown in this picture. Myths and tales that reach into a dim past are woven around almost every nook and corner, bluff and spring inside or outside of the Hopi villages. In the background on the first hill is the village of Shupaulavi.

You can't see Arizona from a motor car. Real Arizona doesn't lie along traveled roads. There is only one place from which to see this most picturesque of all states, and that is from the back of a horse. But if you can't ride a horse, the next best place to see it is from the piazza of a ranche. The Old West endures. It still exists. It is preserved in our ranches, and in every section of the state - the hospitality of the range is open to you. If you want to enjoy Arizona, Dude, go and be wrangled.

In 1994 Ed drove his Ford from Chicago to LA again, where it was shipped on to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where Ed will be stationed until March 1997... after that, watch for Ed & his "66 Patrol" cruising Old 66 again!

The horse soldiers had no use for the beasts as they often When the railroad pushed west the Camel Corps turned loose their animals around 1865. Hi Jolly stayed with the army as a trusted scout, later he turned to mining and prospecting.
