| The Tonto Cliff Dwellings were discovered in about 1540, perched high in the cliffs overlooking a valley, that is now Roosevelt Lake. The pueblo builders being farmers, constructed their homes in easily fortified positions,-near rivers, raising their crops in the river bottoms. |
