Note the pattern on the house made by the peculiar laying of the brick, in Flemish Bond.

Dewey House, built by the "Parson" for his son in 1765, on which floor the night of August 15, 1777 slept many American Patriots, while the women of the household baked eighty loaves of bread for their use the following day of strife. All men folk having left for the battle and an Army Surgeon having appropriated the horse left for her flight, it was Mrs. Mary Tilden Dewey who proposed, if necessary to defend herself against the Indians, to bombard them with "Hasty Pudding and a quantity of boiling water." The present structure, the most beautiful Georgian church in New England, was erected in 1805-6 by Lavius Fillmore, second cousin of President Fillmore.

Anthony in Bennington. 30,000 fruit trees were planted on this farm during the year of 1911-12 and the cultivation of 800 acres of apple, pear, plum, and quince trees is contemplated. This is the largest fruit orchard in the New England states.

The Soldiers Home has about ninety inmates. The property was purchased from the estate of Seth B. Hunt by Trenor W. Park, who intended it to be a home for destitute women and children, but his untimely death prevented the accomplishment of this object. In 1884, the trustees of the Park Home conveyed the property to the trustees of the Soldiers Home who now own it.

Description:
The first Protestant church within the present limits of Vermont was organized here December 3, 1762. The settlers having arrived June 18, 1761. On this site was erected in 1763-5 the first meeting house in the New Hampshire Grants; a plain building of unpainted wood, fifty feet by forty, replaced in 1806 by the present church edifice. Here preached Jedediah Dewey, the first minister of the church. Hither the settlers returned from Capture of Ticonderoga, the Battle of Bennington, and the Surrender of Burgoyne to offer up their thanksgiving and here were brought the 700 prisoners captured on August 16, 1777. Here met the convention consisting of one delegate from each town which on January 10, 1791 ratified the constitution of the United States by the signature of 105 out of 109 delegates, thereby preparing the way for the admission of Vermont into the Union, as the first state after the original thirteen

Dewey house, built in 1765, on which floor the night of August 15, 1777, slept many American patriots, while the women of the household baked eighty loaves of bread for their use the following day of strife. All the men folk having left for battle and an Army Surgeon having appropriated the horse left for her flight, it was Mrs. Mary Tilden Dewey who proposed, if necessary, to defend herself against the Indians, to bombard them with "Hasty pudding and a quantity of boiling water."

The Battle Monument at Old Bennington, Vermont, is a magnificent shaft of gray-blue dolomite, thirty seven feet square at the base and the metal star at the top, 306 feet 4½ inches high. The entrance hall, twenty square and thirty-nine feet high, is a landing for the stairs. Between the entrance hall and grand Lookout floor four flights with 412 steps. The architect was I. Phillip Rinn of Boston. The corner stone was laid on August 16, 1887. The monument was dedicated on August 19, 1891. It commemorates the Battle of Bennington, Fought on August 16, 1777. The cost of the monument was $112,000.00. The highest Battle Monument in the world.

Old First Congregational Church

Description:
The first Protestant Church within the present limits of Vermont was organized here December 3, 1762. The Settlers having arrived June 18, 1761. On this site was erected in 1763-5 the first meeting house in the New Hampshire Grants; a plain building of unpainted wood, fifty feet by forty, replaced in 1806 by the present church edifice. Here preached Jedidiah Dewey, the first minister of the Church. Hither the settlers returned from the capture of Ticonderoga, the Battle of Bennington, and the Surrender of Burgoyne to offer up their thanksgiving and here were brought the 700 prisoners captured on August 16, 1777. Here met the convention consisting of one delegate from each town which on January 10, 1791 ratified the constitution of the United States by the signature of 105 out of 109 delegates, thereby preparing the way for the admission of Vermont into the Union, as the first state after the original thirteen.

The Battle Monument at Bennington Center, Vermont, is a magnificant sharf of gray-blue dolomite, thirty-seven feet square at the base and, including the metal star at the top, 306 feet 4 1/2 inches high. The entrance hall, twenty feet square and thirty-nine feet high, is a landing for the stairs. Between the entrance hall and grand look out floor there are thirty-four flights with 412 steps. the architect was J. Philip Rinn of Boston, Mass. The corner stone was laid on August 16, 1887. The monument was dedicated on August 19, 1891. It commemorates the Battle of Bennington, foughts August 16, 1777. the total cost of themonument was $ 112,000.
