Monument Avenue - The main street of Old Bennington. The Church of Christ in the foreground. Its predecessor, the first church built in Vermont, stood on the green to the left of the picture. The Walloomsac Inn stands directly opposite. Next to the church looking up the avenue stood the Ethan Allen house and farther up the General hospital and the Catamount Tavern. On the Monument Grounds were located the Continental Store House, the State house, the Pillory, and Whipping Post of early days. One of a series of 100 interesting Post Cards published by E. T.
