The famous engine "General" which was captured is kept as a memorial in the Union Station at Chattanooga. A tablet tells the story of the raid.

In 1826 he married Eliza McCantle. His wife, who was educated, thrifty and industrious, was of great assistance in his career. He was Vice President when Lincoln was assassinated, and succeedd to his unexpired term. Johnson died on July 31st, 1875, near Carter's Station, Tenn., and was buried near his home in Greenville, Tenn. His wife survived him one year.

Dentzel of Philadelphia, son of Gustav Dentzel, America's pioneer carousel builder was brought to Memphis in 1923 and placed in the Fairgrounds Amusement Park. Designed in the "Jester Head" or clown face style, this carousel is one of only seven Dentzel carousels in the South and the only one in Tennessee. The elaborately ornamented wooden horses are entirely hand-carved.
