| The Tennessee State Capitol building is located in the center of the city, 197 feet above the Cumberland River. Constructed between 1844 and 1859, the building was designed by architect William Strickland, who is entombed in the north wall. President James K. Polk and his wife are buried on the grounds, where a statue of General Andrew Jackson also stands. |
