The Ohio flag was first publicly displayed in 1901 at the Ohio Building of the Buffalo Pan-American Exposition. It had no legal status, however, until the following year. A bill authorizing and describing the flag became a law May 9, 1902. Following is the essential text of the act: "The flag of the State of Ohio shall be pennant shaped. It shall have three red and two white stripes; the union of the flag shall be seventeen five-pointed stars, white in a blue triangular field, the base of which shall be the staff end or vertical edge of the flag, and the apex of which shall be the center of the middle red stripe. The stars shall be portional dimensions of the flag and of its various parts shall be according to the official design thereof on file in the office of the Secretary of State." The thirteen stars grouped about the circle represent the thirteen original states; the group of four stars indicates those added, including Ohio, at the time of the state's admission into the Union. The white circular "O" is the initial letter of the name of the state.

Description:
The development of the American flag followed a regular pattern. The 13 stripes were evolved to represent the 13 Colonies. There was no idea of separation from Great Britain, so the British Jack was put in the corner. When the committee was appointed to select an American flag, they naturally took the 13 stripes, and Rhode Island already had put the 13 stars in the Jack of their flag. It was planned to add both stars and stripes as States were admitted, but this was found impractical, and after the War of 1812, we went back to the original 13 stripes but added a star for each state

Description:
The Confederate Battle flag was adopted Sept. 1861 after General Beauregard decided Manassas, July 21, 1861, to be less confusing than the Stars and Bars or the First National flag of the confederacy which resembled the U. S. flag (Union) in the dust, smoke and heat of battle. The official size of the Confederate Battle flag was 52 inches square for the Infantry, 38 inches square for the Artillery and 32 inches square for the Cavalry. It is the insignia of the sons of Confederate Veterans. The Navy Jack is the rectangular version of the battle flag, its proportion being more near that of the dimension shown on this post card. Published in interest of the civil War Centennial 1861-65 ? 1961-65.

South Carolina Navy Ensign - 1775 A Flag adopted by the Southern Colony early in the Revolution. First Navy Jack - 1775 Hoisted on the Main Mast by Commander -in-Chief Esek Hopkins, December 3, 1775. Cambridge Flag, First Navy Ensign 1775 - 1776 Hoisted by John Paul Jones, December 3, 1775 and by General Washington, January 2, 1776. Rhode Island Flag - 1776 Carried at Brandywine, Trenton and Yorktown. First Stars and Stripes United Emblem of Independence said to have been originated by George Washington following Act of Congress of June 14, 1777. "Star Spangled Banner" - 1814 The emblem of Inspiration of Our National Anthem, 1814, Flag of Victory over Barbary Pirates 1803 to 1805. 15 Stars and 15 Strips. The development of the American flag followed a regular pattern. The 13 stripes were evolved to represent the 13 Colonies. There was no idea of separation from Great Britain, So the British Jack was put in the corner. When the Committee was appointed to select an American flag, they naturally took the 13 stripes, and Rhode Island already had put the 13 stars in the jack of their flat It was planned to add both stars and stripes as States were admitted, but this was found impractical, and after the War 1812, we went back to the original 13 stripes but added a star for each state.

Flags Of The Confederacy

Description:
"And twill live in song and story Though its folds are in the dust" No. 1 The "Battle Flag" was designed by Gen. Beauregard, adopted by Gen. Joseph E. Johnson after the first battle of Manassas, and afterward adopted by the Confederate congress. The reason for its adoption was, that it battle the "Stars and Bars" was frequently mistaken for the "Stars and Stripes." It remained as the "Battle flag" until the close of the war. No. 2 On March 4, 1865, the confederate Congress adopted this design as "National Flag" of the Confederate States, because the other, when limp, was too much like a flag of truce. No. 3 On May 1, 1863, the Confederate Congress adopted this flag as the "National flag." No. 4 The "Stars and Bars" was the first flag of the Confederate States and was adopted by the Confederate Congress at Montgomery, Alabama.
