Additional Details:
The Confederate Battle flag was adopted Sept. 1861 after General Beauregard decided Manassas, July 21, 1861, to be less confusing than the Stars and Bars or the First National flag of the confederacy which resembled the U. S. flag (Union) in the dust, smoke and heat of battle. The official size of the Confederate Battle flag was 52 inches square for the Infantry, 38 inches square for the Artillery and 32 inches square for the Cavalry. It is the insignia of the sons of Confederate Veterans. The Navy Jack is the rectangular version of the battle flag, its proportion being more near that of the dimension shown on this post card. Published in interest of the civil War Centennial 1861-65 ? 1961-65.
