The Jew's House
Title:
The Jew's House
Lincoln unused

Description:
This relic of early Norman architecture is situated in the Strait. It was inhabited by Beloset of Wollingford, a rich Jewess who was hanged in 1290 on a charge of debasing the King's coin and her house confiscated. A stone house in early times was a sign of opulence, and the Jews from their wealth and also for security were often possessors of houses similar to the one depicted
