Description:
Built in 1798 on Lost Creek by James Rice and son, this ancient mill was in continuous operation until 1934, when the TVA moved the rare bit of early America to save it from disappearing beneath the waters of Lake Norris. All moving parts, spokes and dowels were fashioned by hand in keeping with details of original construction. Still under supervision of a descendent of James Rice, the creaking mill produces its daily quota of meal which is purchased by thousands of tourists from all over the world

Description:
Norris Dam, TVA project on the Clinch River in north east Tennessee, now does its part in flood control. The Three steel drum gates in the top of the spillway section are capable of raising the level of the reservoir a total of 14 feet, and when the water reaches the top the lake contains approximately 2,500,000 acre feet. this dam 265 feet high and 1,860 feet long, helps control season floods, aids navigation on the Tennessee River in months of low flow and provides for production of electric power.

Description:
The Norris Dam is being built and supervised by the T. V. A. (Tennessee Valley Authority) and is named for United States Senator George W. Norris, of Nebraska. It is located on the Clinch River in Tennessee, just below where Gover Greek joins and for this reason was formerly called the Cove Creek Dam. The Dam proper will be 253 feet high from foundation to roadway, 210 feet thick at the base and 1800 feet long at the top. The waters impounded by Norris Dam will form an aritifical lake of 3,600,000 acre-feet covering some 80 square miles with a shore line of more than 800 miles. It is estimated that it will take three years to complete and the cost will be thirty-four million dollars
