Utah Copper Mine is located at Bingham Canyon, Utah, about 30 miles southwest of Salt Lake City. The Mine is a theater-like quarry covering about 466 acres. Ore is mined by 23 electric shovels with dippers of 7 tons capacity. Maximum daily tonnage (ore and capping) 142,185 tons, maximum employees 2,000, mine tracks 67 miles, forty-one 75-ton electric locomotives. Height of mountain above pit 1600 feet. At no place in the world is power shoveling and moving of rock done on as extensive a scale. Maximum daily tonnage would make a train 21.5 miles long. Total tonnage to be moved at Utah Copper Mine is more than twice the quantity of all material excavated from Panama Canal to its opening in 1915

Ore is mined by 42 electric shovels with dippers of 10 tons capacity. Normal daily tonnage (ore and waste) is 180,000 tons. There are 2,200 employees at the mine and 2,100 at the mills. It uses sixty-two 75-ton electric locomotives and 156 miles of standard gauge railroad track. Height of the mountain above the pit is 1,960 feet. The Utah Copper Company's Mine is located at Bingham, Utah, about 30 miles South West of Salt Lake City. This mine is operated by both underground workings and steam shovels. Daily output: Ore 22,000 tons, stripping, 31,000 tons. (Stripping is the overburden removed in order to get at the ore); employs 2,400 ; operates 41 miles of railroad on the mountain, 51 locomotives, and 22 steam shovels. The height of the mountain above the pit is 1600 feet. At no place in the world is steam shoveling and moving of rock promoted on as extensive a scale as at Bingham, where 22 steam shovels, 51 locomotives and 1000 ore cars are kept busy day and night. The total amount of material to the moved at the Utah Copper Mine, so far as present development indicates, is practically the same as the total amount moved on the Panama Canal.
