Alaska's Oil Pipeline
Alaska (AK), Continental Chrome PM 1976 May-19

Description:
The discovery of oil on Alaska's North Slope was made in March 1968 at Prudhoe Bay. In August of the same year the first feasability studies on a proposed Alaskan Pipeline were begun. In September 1969, the State of Alaska held a lease sale of Prudhoe Bay and a record 900 million dollars was collected form those companies winning the lease. To assure the safety of Alaska's wildlife and permafrost ecology, the pipeline will be alternately buried and elevated, depending on the varying soil conditions along its route. Temperature vary greatly from as much as its route. Temperatures vary greatly from as much as 100 degrees F in summer to more than -75 degrees F in the dead winter. The Alaskan Pipeline will take three years to build and cost in the neighborhood of 4 billion dollars. It is the most costly project ever undertaken by private enterprise.
