HEAD OF YELLOWSTONE LAKE. Yellowstone
Lake is about 7,741 feet above the level of the sea with a
shore line of about 100 miles and an area of 139 square miles.
Its maximum depth is 300 feet and it is fed from mountain
springs and snow drifts. The waters are icy cold, clear and
transparent to great depths. The shape of the lake resembles
that of a human hand and the best view is from the head of
the lake. Tourists travel by stage around its border or by
boat across it.
