J. W. M. Turner, R. A., the celebrated artist, was born in 1775 and died in 1851. He is famous as a colourist, and his works display great originality and imagination. He left a large number of his pictures to the nation, among them being "The Royal Yacht Squadron, Cowes," which now hangs in the Victoria and Albert Museum, South Kensington. |
