Situated a short distance up the River Glengariff, and one of the most visited spots in the valley. The story goes that Cromwell, while on a punitive expedition, was considerably hindered by the fording of this river then flooded, and threatened that unless a bridge were built to facilitate his return, to hang a man for every hour he was delayed. No time was lost in acceding to his demands!
