| Castle Geyser is located in the upper Geyser Basin not far from Old Faithful. Geysers are brought about when the internal heat of the earth approaches close to the surface. Water trickling down from the surface or from subterranean springs collects in the geyser crater down among the strata of intense heat and there becomes heated to steam which blows out the cooler water above it until the chamber is clear of water. This water cooled and falling to the ground again makes its return in time to the crater depths to repeat again. |
