From this vantage point the visitor looks down upon huge pipes through which the world's largest pumps lift water 280 feet higher than the level of the lake behind the Grand Coulee Dam. These pipes discharge the water into a 27-mile long storage reservoir from which over a million acres of land in central Washington can be irrigated.

Located near the Government Town Center, the cafe is so designed that tourists can see from their tables in the spacious air-cooled dining room a full view of the spillway of the Grand Coulee Dam where 3,000,000 gallons of water plunge downward each second to rejoin the Columbia River as a wall of water 1650 ft. long and 1 ft. thick plunges over the Dam in a 320-ft. falls during the average high-water season. A second Green Hut Cafe and Curio Shop can be found across the river in the shopping district.
