Most impressive in construction; carved from the perpendicular granite face of Storm King Mountain in the Highlands, at an elevation of more than 400 feet above the most beautiful portion of the Hudson River. Washington's patriotic soldiers were compelled to make a most difficult journey across this mountain, many day's march, to reach West Point. This highway is the most expensive piece of road construction in the world. Not only for its scenery is it noted, it also effects a saving of miles of travel

The Cornwall ship canal parallels the Long Sault Rapids and Canadian Highway No. 2. Barnhart Island beyond the rapids will be partly submerged by raising the water level 80 feet. This development will provide over 2,000,000 horse power and a passage for ocean going ships of 27 foot draft through the Great Lakes. One of the finest recreational areas in U. S. or Canada will be a by-product of this development.
