Chief Black Kettle had a dream in which he saw a wolf with blood on its face so he said, “Indian would die” and sent some of his tribe east for safety. After the battle of the Washita some of his tribe cam back to bury him. The wolves had eaten part of the flesh so he was buried in the ground, although it was the custom to bury in trees.
