It is finished in cypress, stained in delicate green and brown tones; decorated with fruit ornamentations; and above the wainscotting is decorated with free-hand painting. A handsome antique fireplace also adds beauty and the orchestra, is so arranged that the music may be heard in both dining-rooms.

Description:
This institution was founded on a bequest of $200,000 by Silas Bronson, who died in 1867; the building, in the Italian Renaissance style of architecture, cost $60,000, and is in reality two buildings, the front for administrative and public purposes, the rear for general literary uses. The main building has a handsome porch combined with a portecochere, and the stack rooms contain over 65,000 volumes.
