Mill Race Inn
Where the Fox River Flows Under the
Bridge at Geneva, Illinois
Let us tell you something of the history of MILL
RACE INN. Built in 1842, the main or stone
room as we call it was the Village Blacksmith
Shop built adjoining the mill that farmer's horses
might be shod while other errands were being
done. The thick stone walls and deep reveals in-
dicate its' age. The location was then called Herr-
ington's Ford. Perhaps you wonder what a MILL
"RACE" is and why the place is so named. A mill
race is that part of a stream or river diverted to go u
over the mill wheel, turning it for the power
necessary to keep the machinery going. This
name was given to our Inn when the 100 year old
building was turned into the present MILL RACE
INN more than 38 years ago whose hospitality,
scenery, and food is for your enjoyment.
