This illustration at City Hall Square
Brooklyn, N. Y., only a few blocks removed
from the scene of Beecher's greatest tri-
umph. is a fitting tribute to the great preach-
er-statesman and philanthropist by those
who knew im best.
As a lad of fourteen it fell to my lot to
deliver papers to Mr. Beecher in his study
in Indianapolis, in 1844, and long before he
had acquired the great fame awaiting him.
My most vivid recollections of him
his cordial, kindly greeting and his fondness
for his great, big pet cat, always to be
seen near him. He was truly a great man.
