Additional Details:
Ezra Meeker (1830-1928) was an early Washington State pioneer who trekked across the country by way of ox cart on the Oregon Trail. The illustration is a snapshot taken without posing on an occasion of a noonday rest in Oregon. The oxen were named Twist and Dave. The oxen looked the picture of content and health and gained in weight as Ezra moved out on the Plains, until one morning Twist sickened. Twist died on August 9, 1906, at Brady Island, Nebraska, Meeker's 120th camp on his 1906-1908 Trail marking expedition.
