Developed by the Alabama Power Co., this lake is said to be one of the clearest lakes in the nation. Several fingers of the lake reach into the Bankhead National Forest. Much of its 21,000 acres is impounded in virgin forest. It has 500 miles of shoreline and is unusually deep. Big bases here for the taking.
