| This historic marker is located on Big Kennesaw Mountain looking toward Little Kennesaw Mt. The Battle of Kennesaw was fought June 27, 1864. The smaller Confederate force (60,000) under Johnston defeated the larger force (95,000) of the Union army under Sherman. The Confederate victory slowed Sherman's March to the Sea. |
