"Home of the Infantry" The word "cuartel", of Spanish origin, means barracks for troops. There are three cuartels at Fort Benning, comprising seven separate buildings. This picture of the first cuartel, which was completed in 1929, has more than one half mile of covered porch area - the longest known undivided porch in the world.
