This watermelon gained two titles on August 26, 1979
That date it became the first watermelon to weigh 2000
pounds or more and was entered in Hope's annual water
melon Festival as the world's largest watermelon. Hope's
previous record melon weighed 195 pounds and was
grown in 1935.
