able. About 1200 branches (the number is in-
creasing every month) have been established
in these counties, thus making library service
available to every resident of the county. Ser-
vice to the schools is an especial feature.
The following twenty nine counties in Cali-
fornia have established a county free library:
Alameda, Butte, Colusa, Contra Costa, Fresno,
Glenn, Humboldt,Imperial,Inyo, Kern, Kings,
Los Angeles, Madera,Merced,Monterey,River-
side, Sacramento, San Bernardino, San Diego,
San Joaquin, San Mateo, Santa Barbara, Santa
Clara, Siskiyou, Solano, Stanislaus, Tulare,
Ventura, Yolo.
