Back:
New Orleans was founded in 1718 by Bienville. With
the ending of the French era in 1764, the colony was
ceded to Spain. It was returned to France in 1801, but in
1803 through the Louisiana Purchase it was taken over by
the United States. Many of the French and Spanish struc-
tures are from 100 to nearly 200 years old.
