This modern, 8 million dollar, 350 bed hospi-
tal, opened in August of 1961, is owned and
operated by the Hospital Sisters of the Third
Order of St. Francis. Here the sisters continue i
the work they began in 1878 when they opened ;
the first hospital in Decatur-a 6-bed frame
house near the corners of Webster and Wood
Streets-St. Mary's Hospital.
