Additional Details:
Fort Osage stood at the gateway to the Virgin West as the most extended trading post and Fort of its day. It was built by military forces under General William Clark in 1808 on a promontory overlooking the Missouri River, marked for the purpose a few years earlier by the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
