Named in Honor of Admiral Vennon of the British Navy the Estate came into Washington Possession in 1752. in 1859 the house and 200 acres of land were bought by he Mount Vennon Ladies association for $200,000 Most of which was raised by Edward Everett it is now restored as nearly as possible to it's former appearance. George Washington the father of the country a. fib 22, 1732. served in Army Fighting Indians and French from 1750 to 1756 was a member of first continental congress on June 1st 1775 Congress appointed him commander in chief of the continental army took command July 3rd 1775 on April 30 1789 He was inaugurated 1st President of the U. S. and again in 1793 Died at Mount Vernon Dec 1, 1799. Martha Washington was born in New Kent county, Virginia in May 1708. Being the daughter of Col John Bandridge A wealth planter in 1749 she married Daniel Parre Custio who died in 1757 was married to George Washington Jan 6, 1959 to devoted to General Washington that she frequently shared the hardships of his army life in camp she died at Mount Vernon May 22 1908.
