Back:
Ź - Foreiga Published by Fred. Harvey, Engine No. 3000, recently built in the Santa Fe's Topeka shops, is the largest steam locomotive in the world. Others of the same size and type are building there. By comparison with other Mallet Locomotives it is some twenty feet longer and has four more driving wheels and weighs 150,000 pounds more. The Mal- let principle permits the taking of a per- fectly good modern locomotive and ad- ding to it a similar unit or section con- sisting of a boiler, steam cylinders and driving wheels all operated by one engi- neer and one fireman.
