聖火リレー
8月21日、ギリシャ国オリンピアのヘラ神殿で採水された聖人は、
アテネに移され、安全灯におさめられて、日本航空会社のダグラス
DC-6B機でそこを発し、途中11国の都市を訪問して、9月6日
に沖縄の那覇に到着、三つの安全灯に分けられ、全日本航空輸送会
社のフレンドシップ27および YS-11機によって鹿児島、宮崎、お
よび札幌に送られる。国内では、札幌の聖火が青森で二つに分れ、
南北から四つのコースによって、全国の都道府県庁所在地間にリレ
ーされ、10月10日の大会開会式当日会場の国立競技場に到着し、聖
火台に移されて大会中平和のシンボルとして日夜燃えつづける。

Torch Relay
The Sacred Flame lighted in the Temple of Hera at
Olympia, Greece on August 21, 1964 and transferred to
Athens, is taken there on board of a plane Douglas DC-
6 B of the Japan Air Lines. Afetr visiting 11 cities in
11 countries, the Torch reaches Naha, Okinawa on Sep-
tember 6. The Sacred Flame is divided into three to
send forth to Kagoshima, Miyazaki and Sapporo by All
Nippon Airways' planes Friendship-27 and YS-11. In
Japan, the Torch is carried by young Japanese runners
along four routes, with an additional flame added at
Aomori, in relays between prefectural main cities all
over the country.
Thus the Torch arrives at the National Stadium in
Tokyo for the opening ceremony of the Games on October
10 and there the Sacred Fire reignited in the Olympic
cauldron remains lit throughout the Games as a Symbol
of Peace.
