NUESTRA SENORA DE LA SOLEDAD
The aussion of “Our Lady of the Soli-
tude” was founded on the ninth of October,
1791, miuway between the Mission of San
Antonio de Padua and Santa Clara. Surely
there is no question concerning the faithful
persistent work of the padres and their
Indian converts.
Of these the number steadily grew larger,
in spite of an epidemic which made great
ravages among them. From its zenith of
wealth and influence, about the year 1820,
the Mission fell into decline and Padre
Sarria who had grown aged and feeble,
dropped dead before the alter while on his
knees in prayer. Little remains of this
Mission but debri to tell its story to the
visitor.
