| This modern resort town is located on the east shore of Lake Tahoe. A legislative act of 1870 legalized the name of Lake Bigler, after the third governor of California, and this has never been repealed. In 1862 William Henry Knight, map maker of the U. S. Department of Interior, placed the Indian name Tahoe on his map, and subsequent maps have retained it. |
