Additional Details:
Truckee is located on Highway 40 a short distance below Donner Lake and on the banks of the Truckee River. Truckee is an Indian word that means the same as our OK. With this building of the Central Pacific Railroad as far as Truckee, a wagon road was built to Tahoe City. The town, once a lumber camp, now a stock and railroad center, sprawls over the rocky slopes of the pine-covered hills. The first California Ski Club was organized here in 1913. The area is known for its fine winter sports with Squaw Valley only a short distance away
