| In September 1863 Austin became Lander County seat and built a fine stone courthouse. Austin incorporated as a city in January 1864 with a population of 7,000, second largest city in Nevada. The churches are Episcopal, Methodist and Catholic. Austin is one of the oldest towns in Nevada. |
