At noon on February 20, 1915, the Panama-Pacific International Exposition was officially opened by Secretary of the Interior Lane, as personal representative of the President. At the same time President Wilson, with the other members of his cabinet, gathered at the White House, Washington, held down the key of a gold telegraph instrument, forming a connection direct to the grounds of the Exposition in San Francisco, and set in motion the machinery of the greatest Exposition the world has ever seen.
