Additional Details:
Girard College was founded by the will of Stephen Girard, for the support and education of "poor white male orphans". The corner-stone was laid July 4th, 1833, and the building opened January 1st, 1848. The original edifice is an imposing structure, Corinthain in style, and is 111 feet wide, 169 feet long, and the total height is 97 feet. Numerous other buildings have since been added.
