The Cross was erected by the Reed City Chamber of
Commerce in 1954 on old U. S. 131 near the home of
the author and Mrs. Bennard 5 miles north of Reed
City, Michigan. Rev. Geo. Bennard is the author and
composer of the popular song "The Old Rugged Cross."
(Died Oct. 10, 1958).
