The DuBois House stands upon the site of
the first Redoute" or Fort. It was built in
1705 by the son of Louis DuBois, the patentee.
High up in the western wall is a look-out win-
dow and in the eastern wall are portholes which
happily never had to be used. It has been
modernized to a considerable extent, still, as
one walks by-there are the portholes-grim
reminders of the past.
