In November, 1732, the good ship Ann sailed
from Gravesend on the Thames with colonists
under command of James Edward Oglethorpe,
to establish the Colony of Georgia.
Oglethorpe was directed to lay out "a site
for the Church," which was done July 7, 1733,
on the present site, corner of Bull and Congress
Streets.
The first building was commenced March 25,
1740; it was completed and dedicated in 1750.
