In November, 1732, the good Ship Ann sailed from Gravesend on the Thames with colonists under command of James Edward Oglethorpe, to establish the Colony of Georgia.Oglethorpe was directed to lay out " a site for the church," which was done July 7, 1733,on the present site, corner of Bull and Congress Streets.The first building was commenced March 25, 1740; it was completed and dedicated in 1750.
