PORT CHARLOTTE
One of Florida's fastest growing communities, Port
Charlotte has reached a population of 15,000 in little
more than a decade. It was near here, in the Char-
lotte Harbor area, that the Spaniards first attempted a
permanent settlement in America. The date was 1521.
