There are 2.9 million of us in the Republic. 584,000 in Dublin. The whole country is about as big as the state of Maine (32,524 sq. miles). Dublin to - Galway (135); Cork (161); Killarney (191); Shannon (138); London (279); Paris (486); Rome (1,184); New York (3,171). There are more than 2,000 miles of coastline. Some native dishes are world famous. You may like to try Dublin Bay prawns, Galway oysters, Limerick ham or prime beef from any part of the country. 10-15% (two to three shillings in the pound) is usual where no service charge has been made. Taxi drivers expect about 15%. It is also customary to tip porters, car park attendants and barbers. English is the language in common use, but you will come across Irish (Gaelic) also.
