A State Normal School has been located
in Salem since 1854. Until 1896 it opoupied
brick building at the corner of Summer and 2
Broad Streets. The new building etected in.
1893-1896 is at the junction of Lafayette Street
and Loring Avenue. It covers a ground area
of 11,000 square feet. The architect was J. Phil-
Rinn of Boston and the cost was $200,000.
