PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD
It could be 1910 or 1920 or even 1930 but its 1985. Two steam locomotives, built in
the first decade of the twentieth century, cross the famous Rockville Bridge and the
Susquehanna River. The bridge, which connects Rockville and Marysville, is a few miles
up-stream from Harrisburg, Pa. The stone arch Rockville Bridge was built in 1902 and
replaced an earlier structure of steel on stone piers. Occasion for this crossing is the
National Railway Historical Society's Convention Special on August 23, 1985. Both
locomotives, Atlantic 7002 and American 1223, were built by the railroad's Juniata
Shops. The former Pennsylvania Railroad steam locomotives are leased by the Strasburg
Rail Road from the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.
