CITY OF NEW ORLEANS
Just about a week before the National Railroad Passenger Corporation takes over
rail travel, one of the old guard sends its “City of New Orleans" south from
Chicago, April 24, 1971. A nicely matched set of Winois Central chocolate
brown and orange EMD E units and smooth side passenger cars stretch out over
the bridge. The "City of New Orleans", train No. 1, departed Chicago at 8:00
a.m. and arrived at its namesake city at 1:30 the following morning. Train No. 1
and its northbound counterpart No. 2, were all coach streamlined trains with
reclining seats and a club-lounge.
