ST. JOSEPH RIVER, MISHAWAKA, INDIANA
Sparkling as it courses its way through the heart of Mishawaka, the lively
St. Joseph River offers both power and recreation to the more than 40,000
people who call this city their home. The area's original inhabitants, the
Indians, and the early settlers depended upon the river more for sustenance
than for recreation. Today we consider the two factors to be closely
intertwined. Sports such as waterskiing, boating, and fishing contribute
much to the economic health of the community. And with the opening of
Mishawaka's new $1.5 million fish hatchery, that fact will be dramatically
underscored. The hatchery will stock the St. Joseph with 650,000 trout and
salmon annually: a great draw for sportsmen, a victory for conservationists,
and a boon to local business.
We at Mishawaka Federal, in this, Mishawaka's sesquicentennial year,
point with pride to the outstanding water resources available to all of us
business, industry, and individuals, alike – in the Mishawaka area.
