summer, reached its
greatest flow since
1894. At that time
five hundred eighty-
four thousand cubic
feet of water (about
16,000 tons) poured
over the spillway of
GRAND COULEE
DAM
every second. In the
future more of the
summer surplus will
be stored up stream
for use in winter.
